MG tub off to new home

BCF member Steve_Lawrence and his wife arrived this morning to pick up the yellow 74 MG tub that I sold him. My neighbor saw us rolling it out and offered assistance, and the 3 of us (with help from the wives) got it loaded up. Hooked my 2-ton engine hoist to the back of the tub, and my wife worked the hoist while the 3 of us lifted the front and guided it on to the trailer. Whole project took only a few minutes.

Steve also took the rest of the miscellaneous Midget bits I had lying around that I wasn't going to use, so I now have my garage back! Nice folks, they've got family in the area so hopefully we'll see them up here again.

Man that tub looks good.

Well Drew, you have room and Steve has a solid tub. All happy.
Good luck to both on your forthcoming projects!
Drew, what kind of timeline are you looking at for the 5-sp, 1275 tunebug take off?

Everybody wins, a good thing. Jack, the tub is pretty good really, I think it will work well for Steve. Certainly not perfect, and the paint's pretty bad, but I think he'll find it useful.

Barry, I'm realistically thinking it's going to be next winter before I can really tackle the 1275/5-speed work. I need to call Hap this week and spend some time talking to him about what I need to plan for, then I've got to get some cash saved up. 5-speed part is pretty simple and not too pricey, but I'm figuring an engine built to the specs I need to be fun in the mountains won't be cheap. Current hoped-for completion date would be spring 2008.

Once I have a rough figure and punch list, I can take a deep breath and start putting aside money to fund the work. I've got a long list of small projects for the Tunebug this summer, so I've got plenty to keep me busy in the mean time.

I'm sure it was easier to load on the trailer, but I'd like to mention that a spridget tub can easily be hauled in the bed of a full size truck.

Anyway,
Congratulations to all of you.

We're planning on it, Barry. Trying to conserve vacation time and cash so we can afford the trip.

Feels good to have the tub gone. It really wasn't in the way, but now I do have all sorts of space opened up in the garage. Also, I was using it as a bit of an excuse for not diving into my list of projects for the Tunebug. With it gone, hopefully I can get re-energized and make some progress.

MG tub enjoying it;s new home

THANKS, DREW!

Put her to bed late last night and she slept straight through on her first night. I went to Harbor Freight at lunch and picked up the dollies to put her onto and should get her unloaded this evening.

Trevor,

Your idea was one that I considered, but since I had access to the trailer, I went wit the easy way. The trailer is so light, that even with it ins the tub, I couldn't feel any difference in performance.

Jack and all,

The tub is really solid, and does not have that many dings in it. If I don't have to have it blasted, I should be able to have it disassembled, straightened, and ready for primer in a weekend. I haven't checked it wet yet, but I think most of it will be good with just primer and block sanding.

I saw that at least one of the side mirrors had put a wrinkle in the door panel, but that is about as bad as any of it appears to be. The big question is whether or not the existing paint is in good enough shape to seal and paint over so that I don't have to have it blasted.

I haven't inventoried all of the extra bits yet to see which ones are up for grabs, but I'll try to do that this weekend so that I can help out with any of the little doodads that any of you may need.

I do already know that I have at some spare rostyle wheels. I want one of them, since my car didn't have a spare. I saw that one of them had a couple of repairable dings at the edge of the rim, but there should be at least a couple of good extras for anyone else that needs a spare.

Cheers /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif,

Steve

Re: MG tub enjoying it;s new home

Unfortunately I had to work a little late last night, so I only got the doodads unloaded from the truck bed. The tub is still on the trailer. I did take another look at the pictures that Drew has on his site (below), and I think I will blast the tub and start clean. If anyone has a good shop to recommend in SoCal, I'd love to hear about it. I am in Simi Valley, which is at the Eastern edge of Ventura County, bordering on Los Angeles County.

Although it was too late to unload the tub las night, somehow it managed to not be too late to sit out and admire it with Mary while we drank a bottle of wine. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Updates to follow as progress is made.

Re: MG tub enjoying it;s new home

MG as art is never a bad thing, especially with a bottle of good wine handy. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Re: MG tub enjoying it;s new home

It was Red Truck Cabernet Savignon from Cline. You should try it sometime! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

Mary is working late tonight, so I have to get home at a decent hour to feed the dogs. I guess that means that I'll have time to unload her tonight. I also forgot that I need to swap out the ram on my hoist. I blew out the other one using it as a shrub extractor. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif The new one is air over hydraulic, so I can have some extra fun with that! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif
