Hi I have dismantled my seats (1936 TA) and one base is about 1/2" longer than the other. Both bases look original (the captive nuts are in place etc) as do the foams. The shorter seat fits the foams perfectly (they are of the layered type with flat top surfaces.) but the foam sits 'short' on the other base. Should I maybe saw off the extra piece? Otherwise I need to position my rear seat hinges differently and it's hard to make the covers fit. Does anyone know whether maybe one base is from a later car? Thanks for any advice. John
 
John, Not to take anything away from this site, but, go over to the MG Enthusiasts site. Go to the members section. It's free to sign up and then go to the T series threads. You'll find fellows from all over the world who own and are very knowledgeable on the T series cars and are extremely willing to help. You'll get more information there than anywhere I know due to the vast amount of T owners from the first to the last. PJ

John, I know nothing about TAs , but here's a couple shots of TA seats and they look identical in seat length to me, the backs are different which might be from a different year/model. I really don't know why they would be different in the same car. PJ



 
John, Ever been to Eccleshall, Straffordshire? My son and his wife were married there in the Holy Trinity Church. Amazing history. PJ

 
I'm afraid I haven't been to Eccleshall although I have been to Staffordshire a couple of times and strangely it's where I bought my TA.

If I may ask you another question - I'm trying to check whether my seat back, the wooden part, is the correct shape for my car (it's been made by somebody at some stage).


Car tub internal width is 44" measured at the top edge of the tub and at the point where the hood irons mount to the body (i.e. just behind your head!). The car is a 1936 TA so should have the 'narrow' body but, again, it has been rebodied at some point and I'm not sure whether it's now officially wide!


The seat back is 38.5" wide at the top, 30.5" wide at the base and 25.5" tall. The 'flanks' that are cut into it are 25.5" tall and 4" wide at the base, shouldered at the top to leave 'ears' about 3.5" tall. Does this sound right to you?

John, I got my '37 in near Bedford while stationed at Chicksands, not far from you. My seats have one solid back and two bottom parts hinged to the top, the brace and adjustment is on the inter rear wing. The chassis number is 1798.
