MG Rectangular Oil Press. Gauge

This post may prove to be more related to MGB's than Midgets but I'm posting it both places in the hope that someone knows the answers.

I'm seeking an MG rectangular oil pressure gauge for a custom dash project. I've seen both mechanical and electric versions. I've also seen one gauge with a chromed, raised lip, front bezel while most the gauges have had simple, flat folded sheet metal holding the glass in place. Now the questions:

1) Does anyone know the years when electrical vs mechanical oil pressure gauges were used?
and the similar question...
2) Does anyone know the years when each bezel type was used?
(flat vs raised chrome)

For visual cues, see:

and flat bezel mechanical --

Thanks for your help.

The flat gauge your looking at goes behind the chrome bezel your looking at. I think 68, 69, and 70 were the years for the electric gauges. I understand that there was so much trouble with them, the factory went to the mechanical gauge. My 72 has a mechanical gauge. My 70 that I just bought has an electric gauge. Use the mechanical if you can and eliminate future problems. Also the chrome bezel has tabs on the sides that are bent back after you insert it in the hole in the dash. The gauge goes behind it. MG dashes have the fastners for the gauge built in. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif PJ

I was thinking the second ebay one looked incomplete myself (like missing the bezel), I don't think I've ever seen a guage in any car that unfinished looking around the edges.

Thanks to both of you.

I thought the one without the bezel looked very crude and was trying to imagine how it would look on the dash of an MGB. Now I just have to find a mechanical gauge with the bezel included at a reasonable price!

Thanks again for the info and the advice.

I probably have what you want...
