Just wanted to show off a bit of my latest handy work and I thought some of you here might be interested... Not exactly LBC realted but close.

The pen's barrels were turned on my lathe and are made of Honduran Rosewood and utilizes a Rollerball refill.

This one is going to be donated as a raffle item at our local MG club meeting tonight.

Very nice work Rich!!
I'm tempted to come to your meeting just to buy a raffle ticket now!
Except I need to work on my car tonight.

Really nice work

very nice! great work (but does it drip ink?)

Oh, and I presume it is promoted as a Rich "Ball Point Pen?"

(runs and hides) :jester:

I've always wanted to learn how to do this.. any kind of "turning" really

I probably need to get a lathe first

Like I said elsewhere, a few of these on ebay would buy some serious car parts.

That's what I was thinking; does it leak? Is it hard to start? Does it corrode badly? Come with a tool kit? What about electrical problems?

Seriously, that looks nice.

Don’t worry about buying something nice to start. Just find something old on Craigslist. Most lathes got very little use by the majority of people that bought them so most are still in good shape. Find one; clean it up, and your good to go.

Learn to sharpen your tools! It makes a world of difference. If you have a Woodcraft store around you they offer classes on sharpening turning tools and Turing in general. You will need a fine grit (120) wheel on your bench grinder. Don’t worry about speed and size until later.

Many areas have turning clubs that have mentorship programs. Check them out to see if you like it.

You could probably sell a bunch of those here.

Doug

We're not allowed to sell in the forums, but Basil is setting up a new classified section for that type of thing. Feel Free to PM me in your interested in the mean time.

Rich,

Nice work!

Where do you get those MG medallions from (is that the right word?).

I was thinking of turning a gear shift knob for the 1500 Midget. The existing one (and the one I have as a spare) is stripped so it keeps twisting around. Rather than fix it (I tried filling the hole with caulk but now it twists even more, ha!) I thought I'd make a nice new one from a chunk of walnut or whatever.

Cheers!

I think I would like one with a Sprite/Austin Healey emblem. Notice I did not mention price. It is not an issue.

Basis I am sure will not mind as it is Christmas and this is just amoung friends. LOL

Jack and Doug, PM's sent.

I just finished up a MG and Lotus pen for someone else on the MG forum and thought I'd show off the diffrent wood types. The Mg pen is done in Mesquite burl and the Lotus pen is done in Cocobolo. The Mini Pen is done with Eboney.

I am also includeing an image of the Austin Healey logo since I have been asked about.
