MG Midget Limited Edition

Hello, I'm the lurker that JP so gently outed. I've been lurking here for a year or so and just needed a gentle nudge. :thankyousign:

Well, I bought this car a couple of years ago. Body wise, it was in pretty good shape. A previous owner had put a 1275 in it. It smoked quite badly, so I rebuilt it. I redid the head with new valves and hardend guides and seats. I put new U joints in the drive shaft, redid all the suspension bushings in poly and upgraded the front anti-sway bar.

I bought the LE wheels from Hap at Acme. I also added an LE dash plaque and someday I'd like to get a front spoiler too. My son-in-law gave me a hand with the walnut door trim and dash. The radiator cover I made from a piece of stainless and had a friend laser etch the MG logo on it. And there is a lot more, I could go on all day...

Future plans include a Datsun 5 speed, so if anyone has or knows where I can find one let me know.

So, here's Emmie Girl.

Great to see the pics! That car is so pretty, and just for the record, lots of people thought so.

We still have to convince him to ditch that weber for a proper set of SU's.

True enough though i have to admit his ran smoothly home, mine did not.

Welcome, Theron! Very nice car.

My '78 MG Midget race-car also sports a 1275 engine, so I guess we have cars that are somewhat related.

I have that same Weber downdraft carb on my MGB street car. Although I plan to replace with a more-correct set of SU carbs (I already have them), the Weber was worked fine.

That car looks fantastic. Any diagrams/instructions on making that radiator cover? Does you friend who did the etching need another friend?

let me just add that the dash insert is about the best I have ever seen in terms of style and fit. Love the door caps too. BTW ask about the dash instrument wiring.

oh boy! the wiring... every thing worked on the dash the way it should have. when I pulled the dash out to do the wood I found about 30 - 40 feet of RED wire! A DPO rewired EVERYTHING in red wire! I couldn't trace a wire if i had too! I probably should have replaced the wire harness but i figure i'll wait til i have a problem

I do have a set of SU's that came with the car. I need to replace the throttle shafts and then I'll be putting them on.

That car looks so good it almost makes me sad I ditched my rubber bumpers... almost.

That is a nice car. I was going that route; almost bought the wheels. My version of the LE was 1500 w/ the dual euro SU's, 5 speed or Spit O.D.

I'm with Trev, ditch the DGV and go Su's or side draft Weber. (I have a Delorto 40 and manifold for the A series so let me know if you want to do that.)

Is that regualr ol' Vermillion, or another color?

The color is Flaminco Red. I'm hoping to have the SU's that I have ready to go in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for all the positive comments. I really appreciate them.

Theron
