MG Lugs

Okay...the lugs on my SCCA car are stock (right now)...they're 1/2"-20's with 1" of threads..I micced the knurled end at 514 (a little over 1/2")

I need at least 2" of threads....don't mind drilling my hubs out a little to take larger diameter lug - but not much!

I've been to every parts house, speed shop, & aftermarket wheel shop in town & can't find anything with that much thread & a smaller knurled end less than 560....that's too much to drill out of my hubs

Any ideas?

Why do you need londer lugs?

I wonder if a metric size might fit?

I seem to remember seeing a lot of Datsun/nissan dually trucks back in the 80's - not sure if that has anything to do with lug length or not.

Also, alot of the ricer guys seem to use wheel spacers, might check with some of those guys. Honda lugs?

I'm putting wheels with an incorrect backspace on it so need to space them out...saw what the ricer guys & guys with 'bling' wheels use today at all the wheel places...big, clunky things that bolt to the original lugs & have new lugs that change the bolt pattern...

Tony a 17/32(.531) drill run thu a 1/2(.5) inch hole should be prety easy to do. if i understand correctly you have 1/2 inch holes in there now. the knuled end being only .015 larger that the hole. so if you use the .560 ones then you need a hole at about .545 . 17/32 is .531 try that and if its to tight , try a 35/64ths (.545).

This might help...

https://www.arp-bolts.com/Catalog/Catalog.html

go down to wheel studs, and click a page number. You can look at the sizes they have (over 3 inches long even). Might cost you more than you want to spend on the budget though. Jegs carries these.

Mark - I was hoping to use a 17/32 drill....remember I need to stay with 1/2" stud because of the holes in the wheel (Carroll Shelby Saab Minilite look-alikes)....isn't .660 closer to 9/16"?

https://www.convert-me.com

I can't live without this - converts almost every known form of measurment for you.

9/16 is .5625 inch though.

9/16 (.562) but if you drill them that big for .560 knurl then the studs wont stay in the hole. is 13mm (.511) an option?

if the 13mm will also fit through the wheel holes & allow a set of lug nuts to center the wheel....but I've not found anything that size

they would , the wheel holes are generally large by a fair amount to allow the taper on the nut to work its magic. what size are the stock wheel holes compared the the 1/2 inch studs? .011 larger than .5 aint a hole lot.(pardon the pun)

I've found a set of 1/2x20 that are 2-1/2" long & the knurled end is only .006 larger than the MG...Rick Starkweather also found a set of metric that he says will go right into the MG hole...gonna contact that company tomorrow to see what the length is...
