MG interior door panel

I am beginnng to install Moss interior door panels on my '72 B. Two problems--the pre drilled holes don't quite match the holes in the door & the white plastic panel clips (sent w/ panel) are too large for the pre-drilled holes. My plan is to redrill the holes in the proper place and larger but, very carefully so I don't go thru the covering. Any suggestions as to altenate ways to attach the door panel?

This amazes me. I had absolutely no problem with alignment or clips. Mines a '79, but I don't think any changes were made in this area.
If somebody knows better, they will soon chime in.

And... Welcome! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif The more the merrier! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif There is always room in this pool! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Be sure you received the correct part number for your year car. This doesn't sound right.

I installed them on my '72 last year and there were some slight alignment problems but had no problem getting them on and the holes were fine for the size of the clips. You might double check the proper part before drilling. Once they are drilled, its too late to back up. They do take a pretty healthy bump with the palm of your hand to get them in.

You are correct. I did the same thing. You will note, however, that the clip slides along a channel after putting it into the hole. The length of that channel allows you to compensate for "precision British engineering" and get the one or two that don't line up into the holes. Slide your fingers under the panel along the edge and make that "fine tuning". It works. Everytime you take the panel off it is the same. I suspect that the jig that makes it is set as a compromise between all the years that your panel is supposed to fit. Hope that helps. I would do that first before redrilling. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif

Thanks for everyones input. I ordered the kit several years ago and it is part of a leather kit. I recall something about it being for a later model but would work w/ earlier models (not quite). There are no channels, just single holes and they don't even come close. The clip does fit the hole in the door but not the hole in the panel. I guess I will try to drill some kind of channel so it doesn't have to be exact. Thanks again.

I think i am understanding your question, if i am then order the metal spring clips instead and dont use the plastic ones.

Your car may be a 72 but that does not mean that the doors are from a 72. Are you sure that a PO had not switched out doors?
