MG 2011

Offline
So....we're thinking about prospective sites for the all-MG Register event for 2011.....

Where do you guys and gals want to go?!?!?!

No return trips to sites previously visited!

Think about hotels for 1000 cars and their occupants...think about local attractions for MG lovers and those accompanying MG lovers who may enjoy "other ventures"....think about drive time and proximity to as many MG owners as can be reached....think about activities that you would enjoy during the event....think about who you would like to meet/hear speak.......think about west of the Rockies as well as east of the Rockies.....

Thanks!

Didn't we just have a lengthy thread about this or am I nuts?

Edit: Ok, I found THIS and THIS but I can't find the one I was thinking of. I posted a bunch of photos in it showing various locations around California.

Just stirring some interest, Steve....It will not be too long before contracts with hotels need to be signed.

I'm going nuts because I can't find the other thread on the subject. I posted a bunch of photos in it and they are still being linked from my site. Frustrating! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

I would, but I already linked to that thread! :p It was a thread where I posted 6 to 8 photos, thumbnails I think. I searched like crazy but couldn't find it. Anyway, enough thread jacking!

Wasn't the lat one in CA? Seems like you should move it east then. Holding it in the middle of the country so to make the drive shorter for some people only means that you lose people who would have come were it closer to them.

It also seems to me that most people don't want to drive their MGB more than a few hundred miles at most to attend a car event. Those who don't mind long trips will go anywhere anyway.

So I'd say concentrate on a region of the country and try to get as many "locals" as possible.

These event are only held every five years...and are under the umbrella of the North American Council of MG Registers....the North American MMM Register, the New England MG T Register, the North American MGA Register, the North American MGB Register, and the American MGC Register all participate.

Past events have been held in:

Indianapolis, IN (1996)...1300 MGs
St.Paul, MN (2001)...850 MGs
Gatlinburg, TN (2006)...1100 MGs

We want to hold these events in an area that a majority of registrants will not need to drive their car more than two (good) days...in an area that has adequate hotel accomodations (and are within close proximity of each other)...in an area that has attractions and places of interest for ALL in attendance (including those non-car enthisiasts and families)...and we do not want to visit a region too frequently...(in an effort to vist different areas of the continent)

You guys and gals are giving me some great options.....keep it up!

Oh, I didn't notice that this was for the "big" one. In that case, I take back discounting the west coast. A large portion of the best sports car roads in the country are along the Pacific Coast. Lots to choose, from San Diego to Seattle. Northern California is especially nice in Summer. Consider the Redwood Forests north of San Francisco. The area is absolutely stunning.

Kingston ON (thousand islands), Ottawa ON (Gatineaus, best white water rafting east of the rockies), Montreal, Quebec City (yes, the only walled city in North America) or Niagara-On-The-Lake

Just had an idea, Rick. Why don't you rephrase your request to "If MG2011 was going to be held 1,000 or more miles away, where would you want it to be? That way you avoid everyone wanting it in their home town. Personally I would rather travel to a multi-day event anyway. We're disappointed that GoF West is only 325 miles from home this year. The last two years we got to drive thousands of miles round trip. That's half the fun (or more)! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Well, I'll say Tulsa Oklahoma again. Nice town. Lots to do.

Well, it appears that it's time for the middle third of the nation to have a crack at it eh?
Anywhere in the middle, West (not East!) of Appalachians, East (not West!) of the Rockies.
