I am building a 1/16 scale model of a 1911 Mercer Raceabout and am having a very hard time finding pictures to use as reference. I want to make this Mercer as detailed as humanly possible. Does anyone have any idea where I can find good pictures of an authentic 1911 - 1915 Mercer Raceabout ? I would greatly appreciate any information you might be able to give me ! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

I'd reccomend that you somehow track down a real one, and ask the owner if you can study it (dimensions, little details, etc...)

The above picture is an exact 1/3 replica of a Maserati 4CL, including an exact replica of the engine (static, not a runner). He lives in southern Ontario, where I took the picture. Anyway... the Indianapolis Speedway museum allowed him access to their Maserati, he was able to be very exact with his replica using measurements he took from the real thing, plus being able to capture small details.

I'm sure you should be able to find a way to track down a real Mercer Raceabout...

Theres a small shop in YorkVille(very high end shopping area of Downtown Toronto) that sells models similar to Sherlock's pic...They had an Aston Martin of some kind that was about the same scale as the Maserati above priced at $20,000...the owner of the store told me a similar model had sold for $40,000 at an auction!....They also had some smaller(roughly a foot- foot and a 1/2 long) model cars that ranged in price from $2000-15,000!! One, an old ferrari priced at $10,000 had a sold sticker on it.

Aside of the models they also had alot of indy memrobilia.....I don't follow indy to much but they had nose cones and other parts from different indy cars.....I remeber seeing a Schumacher Ferrari engine coffee table!

I have an acquaintance who is willing to help. He has a 1921 Raceabout himself and a large collection of Mercer photographs and factory literature for various years. He's also familar with most of the Mercer kits offered over the years & knows where they're inaccurate etc.

If you want to pursue this, send me a personal message via this forum and we'll go from there.
