What a glorious weekend!

Had a great time after a LONG trip heading down... lots of traffic, 2 serious interstate accidents that held us up (one horrific one in Cape Girardeau) and 7 hours to get to Memphis.

Show day weather was perfect, the show was great. Cars are judged concours style, as well as a popular vote on all cars (not by class) for favorite car, best paint, best engine etc. Good fun, great people.

After the show the club held a 'gimmick' rally (where you answer questions as you drive along following the printed directions) that took us on some good Memphis area driving roads. It's always drive, particularly in new areas. I have to add here that the title of Evil Rallye Baster has been stripped from our club's Robert Rushing and bestowed upon Jim Duke. I have done a LOT of rallys but I had to resist calling Jim and cussing him out several times in the 2-2 1/2 hours we were driving. I missed more questions on this rallye than I've missed in all my rallys combined!!!

Then we went to the awards dinner at Coletta's Italian restaurant. If I would have eaten ONE more chunk of bread I'd have busted out my britches before dinner was served! (hey, I was famished, hadn't eaten all day!) A delicious meal, great program (albeit Jim Duke's lame jokes) and all in all a lovely evening. The auction was fun too. Would have been MORE fun if my tightwad husband hadn't had a very close eye on me!

We took the long road home, back up through some small Tennessee towns including Dyersberg and then into IL via Cairo and "followed the river" north up Route 3 home. Took us 8 hours to get home and worth every extra minute!!!

The Memphis car club puts on a first rate, classy show. Joe Reed and Jim Duke have absolutely lovely, sweet wives (amazing they have put up twith those two all these years!!)) Memphisians...thank you SO much for a successful show, a perfect weekend and more importantly, your hospitality!
~hugs~

Here's a link to the Memphis club website and you can view the show pictures and winners.

Here's a picture of the high point "Best of Show" winner, a beautiful 1951 TD, 99.5 points out of 100. Where they found a 5/10 point deduction in that car is beyond me!!!

It was a great weekend, weather-wise. If I hadn't been working on the TR8, I might have made the trip.

JB, you coming to Nashville this weekend?

Mickey

Janel:

Great you,

sorry I mean Chuck,

sorry I mean Chuck and you.

Whatever, took second place in class and third in the rally.

Thanks for sharing,
Patrick

Mickey, I'm working on him! I was hoping he was heading out fishing this weekend and I'd just come alone. Just finished cleaning up the car, she's ready for one more show...

Did check the host hotel, no rooms at the inn. Need to find something within a couple miles or so of there or the show field.

HA! If anyone would have come up with something, it would be you Steve! I should have asked you right off. Not original?

Binabox scored 97.6. First place scored 97.7. That blasted black washer bottle holder. I have been after Chuck about that since we finished her.

Or the non-wire hose clamps, or the aluminum valve cover, or the K&N filters...

But all in all, I was happy.

Recently I saw an MG TD here with white walls on it, I didn't like it much aesthetically... Someone I talked to said that back when new it was very common for an MG TD to have them (standard equipment?)

I've never been into concourse-type judging. No car that ever won a concourse show was anything like it left the factory. Let me see a few flaws like uneven panels, imperfect paint, a slightly rounded-off screw head or two, etc etc. Then I'll give it a real 100. Put some dirt in the arches and I'll give it a 110. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Well sonagun, I should take Emma!!!

Binabox did score 9.8 I think on paint. Which is probably 2 full points higher than when she rolled out of the factory, we only have one 'drip!'

My wife was born and raised in Dyersburg Janel.

Looks like a very well run show, I'm impressed by how fast the details are on the web page. And Janel, who is this Brian that took 2nd in the Ralley??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

That Brian would be my ratzenfratzen son - that was his and Chelle's FIRST ever official rally. Dirty rats.

He took second in class with his Midget too. Was a cool weekend for them. First road trip with the car (outside afternoon drives), first hardware. Not that that's important, but does make you feel good about your car. He gained a lot of confidence in that car driving it 7 hours to Memphis and 8 hours home (long way).

Chelle really had a great time, too, at the car show...
