Hope you all have a safe memorial day weekend! WHat plans do folks have?

I'll be (hopefully) finishing pouring a new concrete base (4ft x 5ft) for a new air cooler.

Still waiting for the claims adjuster here.

Buy Happy Memorial Day, anyway!

Nothing exciting. Just doing some fun things in the garagemajal. Hanging photos. Matting photos, etc. If all goes well will do some more touch-up painting. Making stuffed chicken breasts for dinner and just hanging out and maybe getting a few things done. Husband Doug has re-caulked the kitchen floor (there were a few issues), combed the Golden Retriever Toby which was followed by a shower in the downstairs bathroom as he just can't walk up the stairs anymore. He's 14 but still healthy for a dog that age. I guess that means I am already behind the curve and better get in the shower and dressed or hubby will be miffed. Have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.

Hey where's the waving flag graphic?

Continuing fabrication and paint prep on the Healey, gardening, kayaking in the estuary, drilling holes off center down the length of some 5' 6x6's for some wiring in a complex fir, cedar, and glass overhead structure that I start on Tuesday. [It is amazing what these architects can conceive for us to conjure up.] This project will stretch my limits... Plus reflection on, and the heartfelt thanking of my father and those others who've worked, fought and/or died so that we can live the lives we lead. Without our fighting forces we would be squat. Not to bring politics into this, but; I AM DARN GLAD I AM AN AMERICAN AND LIVE IN THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD! :thankyousign:    Have a great weekend, elrey

Will be having the family over for a picnic and to watch the local parade. This weekend is cleaning up our disaster of a house, and the yard. I did manage to get my beer fridge plugged in, and stocked, out in the garage. Time to crank the tunes and get a TR2 project moving along!

For sure he's talking about an evaporative cooler also known as a swamp cooler. Very efficient in our neck of the woods. As we speak ours is humming away and the entire house is cool in spite of almost 90 outside. Most sit on the roof of the house but some of us when building decided to put the unit on a concrete pad in the back of the home. That way it's easy to prep for the season and if there's a problem it can be handled fairly easy. All it consists of is a 1/2 hp electric motor that drives the fan and a small pump that pumps water over a pad. As the air is pulled thru the pad, the water evaporates and cools. Then the air is blown throught the house. In order to work efficiently the outside humidity must be very low so here in the Southwest it works very well. Cheaper than air conditioning and I know that for sure having lived in Florida.

So there - hope you guys understand that as this lady tried hard to explain it. I think it's got something to do with Physics.

Show'd up by a girl Geez :wall:

 There are some things I know and the cooler is one. As husband's job causes him to be away 8 days at a time, I've learned to become somewhat of a fixit. Doug usually walks me thru the problems and if I can't get him, I google. There are however some things I can't do physically and I really get frustrated. I think that was a back-handed compliment and I so very much appreciate it.

Won`t be going anywhere for Memorial day, i`ll let the other folks have it.
However there is an in state {Liberty Utah} music fest we`ll be attending the following weekend! After that i`ll be moving the motor home to our camp on the mountain for the summer. Health permitting, I`m hoping to spend every other weekend camping this summer. It very well could be my last opportunity to do so. Everyone, enjoy your Memorial weekend. I prefer to avoid the crowds.

Relaxing at home with the family and giving thanks to those who gave us the right to do so. May we always remember the price for freedom is not cheap and so many paid the ultimate price for us to enjoy that privilege. Lest we never forget!

We're on the road, visiting an elderly, sick relative (been here in south-central Pennsylvania for 3 days).
We're heading home today (at least 5 hour drive....without traffic) to an afternoon picnic which we will probably *just* make.

And yes, let's remember why this holiday exists. Hope everyone has a safe and happy weekend.

I visited my Dad in the Virginia Veteran's Care Center on Saturday. It's a nursing home located adjacent to the Salem, VA USVA hospital, but it's not affiliated with the USVA. Only VA war veterans are admitted.

Memorial Day is a very special day at the VA Vet's Care Center, with the halls festooned with flags and banners, a cookout, and other patriotic ceremonies for the old vets and their families. The highlight occurred when a lady with a beautiful voice sang the National Anthem at a flag raising ceremony. It was thrilling to see some of the old veteran stand at attention or rise up straight in their wheelchairs to sing the Anthem!

All these brave men, all Virginians, who answered the call. A very patriotic day, with heroes among us.

It doesn't get any better.:yesnod:

Husband will take his mom to the cemetary to be with his dad, a WWII vet. Chester was proud of his service to his country and after being in the Army to find his beloved brother, Charlie then joined the Navy to finish up his service. Brother Charlie was in the Bataan Death March which he survived but died later in the camp. I have still not worked up the courage to visit Chester. Long story.

Anyway as you have all said today needs to be a tribute to all our vets and during our festivities we all need to take a little time out to pay them respect.

P.S. On Chester's vault there are two flags - one U.S. flag and one Polish flag which is what he wanted. His funeral was a true soldier's funeral and again this is what he wanted. Before his death we had many a conversation and I knew exactly what he wanted when his time on this earth was ended. We all did exactly as he wished.

Think I'll have a cup of coffee and toast Chester while mom and husband visit him.

Spent a few hours at our local Veteran's Memorial Park, ceremonial speeches, 21 gun salute, Taps... can't ever hear that played during these things that I don't choke up...

Met up with some fellow veterans and kicked th' skids of a few rotor-wing thingies they've got on display.

One of the wing commanders was present to speak, I'm ~certain~ they're makin' Colonels much younger these days.

Remainder of the day was at the hovel, sanding drywall mud seams down to approximate the rest of the walls in 'smits' Girl Cave. Then fried chicken 'n CAB... after she hosed me down.

Drywall dust is Eeeevile!! :madder:
