Do we have a BCF member near Portland Maine, who might check out a car for me?

Expenses and pizza will be paid for!

Thanks.

Hook is almost set!

I've been considering another LBC for over a year, eyeing the lures since summer, and the hook has been set for several days ...

With all the help I'm getting from some Maine car clubs and some BCF members, my family may increase by one lump of steel soon. Biggest hassle so far is getting information from the dealer up in Maine.

Typical for me - with no dealer replies, I don't want to drive 3 hours to check out a car, only to find (1) it was just sold yesterday, (2) the engine is blown, or (3) it's in the owner's garage on his private island, while he's surfing in Maui and didn't leave a key with the dealer, etc.

Side note: with all the high-tech new forms of communication we have today, seems that many folks are forgetting how to communicate. One of my students told me she has four cellphones, 21 email and social media accounts, and ignores most of them.

Onward through the fog.

I don't answer a lot, only what I want. Too many scammers and seems everybody wants money. Hope the dealer wakes up. Doesn't seem right not to respond. Keep looking, I have never bought a car within 6 months of looking. Except when I bought three cars new. Ordered a 74 Mustang Mach 1 ( wish I still had), my 86 Ford van, which I ordered, and my 03 MINI S, which too was ordered. Everything else was alook, watch and finally bought.

is there a phone number Tom?

JP - I've called and left messages three times, with the dealership as well as the dealer himself. My gut feeling (often wrong!) is that dealers/sellers don't want customers who actually know to ask for details. The huge rise in numbers of people buying online, sight unseen, makes it easier for dealers to ignore "real people", and only respond to "cool car, clear title? send it" emails.

grumble grumble

Anyway, I'm hoping this works out. If I get some kind of human response that's relatively positive, I'll drive up there this weekend.
Thanks.

Be wise. without knowing what you are looking for, I can't presume it is that rare. If there is even a whiff of scam (and given the dealer response it currently seems like stench TBH) walk (run) away.

A busy day. I've made my offer, and am sitting here waiting for "the guy in the back room" to say yes or no.

nervous? me?

Doug - good memory. One of my favorite 1970s movies.

Remember the scene where Woody's brought to court? And the black woman gives her name as "J. Edgar Hoover"? around 1:30 in the video -

Woody Allen movies of the 60s and 70s were a big influence on my tender years. (Maybe that's what went wrong ...)

woohoo! great news indeed.

The deed is done. Whoever followed my suggestion to shoot me, must have used blanks.
