Mechanical ignorance

This should probably under "Other cars" but it's here

My mechanical ignorance is showing again. I've just been buried lately so I took my Miata to Valvoline quick lube for an oil change. I've been having to add a quart every now and then and have noticed a small leak on the ground. Valvoline tech says my "rear main seal" is leaking. I have no idea what the is or where it is. Where can I find out how to replace that and how big of a job is it? Thanks.

AT the rear of the engine is a seal that surrounds the crankshaft. Generally it requires as a minimum that you pull the tranny. Worst case may require that the engine be removed from the car. Others will elaborate on you particular vehicle.--Good Luck

Thanks Tom...I actually searched on the Miata forum and couldn't find anything. I KNEW it had to be there some place
