Mechanical Fuel Pump Rebuild

I'm in the begining stage of rebuilding the original mechanical fuel pump from my BE. Things were going well in the disassembly until I encountered two tiny "c" clips. Anyone with advice on how to remove these little buggers?

Umm... "carefully"?

A sharp pick should work, getting the point in the clip at as close to center (away from the opening) as possible. Two cautions: Be careful not to stab yourself when it lets go, and working inside a large paper shopping bag can keep the li'l buggers from launching themselves across the room.
