Measurement for shut pillar top piece BJ7 or BJ8

Hi Everybody,
I find myself needing a measurement. I took dimensions for making this top piece for the shut pillar. One dimension I didn’t get was how tall (vertically) it was when welded onto the pillar itself. In other words, how high does it extend above the pillar? Looking at my old photos, it looks like the flange along the bottom does not sit flush on the pillar. It is that, that is causing me the grief. If anyone could get me that, I’d appreciate it. See photo for a better idea of what the heck I’m asking. Thanks!

Hi Greg, I just went out and looked at mine since may car is mostly dissembled but I have not taken the shrouds off yet. And I have not cut my shut pillars off yet.
So, the measurement is 1 3/4 inches. I measured inside the radius of the bend, straight up from the horizontal edge of the shut pillar. And measured out on the outer vertical edge straight up. Also measured both left and right side of the car. It measures 1 3/4 inches at all locations. I took pics with my new digital camera. If I can figure out how to post them, I will.

Greg, where your pic shows the piece to be about 1/4 " below the horizontal line of the shroud,,, my pieces are even with the under edge of the shroud. as if the shroud in its right position would sit right on top of these pieces at the same horizontal plane, of course but the shroud does not extend out to cover this piece.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for taking the time to measure that for me. Now for the odd things. I measured the piece I had made today and it is also 1¾" tall. It just looks way short, even after I moved the shut pillar up a quarter inch or so. I have another picture of that area before everything was unbolted and the shroud is clearly higher than the piece, maybe 3/8". Definitely not resting on top. Don't know what else to say other than thanks and I'll try to make it work.

Greg, by coincidence, today I was working in another town and there is a british car restoration shop there that I sometimes stop and visit when in the area. So today I did just that. By another coincidence, he happened to have a big Healey in there just ready to roll into the paint booth. We were standing there next to it talking, and my eyes of course were going all over it. The car was mostly a body shell in primer, and as I looked at it i wasn't sure which model it was, but it looked very familiar. Then I noticed that it had a raised rear shroud and the latch panel looked just like mine. I said, ' is this a BJ7. The answer was yes. That latch pillar and top piece that we have been talking about, looked exactly like mine. Just like the ones in my pictures I posted.

Greg, I'm sending you a PM soon about the top piece for the shut pillars.
