I don't know if anyone in MD really knew of this. But the MVA here allows cars that have historic plates to use "Vintage plates" or "Year of Manufacture". You wont find any info about it on the MVA website, but here is how you do it.
It is really easy. You take a set of original MD plates from the year of Manufacture of your car. The expiration date on plates, so if you have a 73 like mine it needs to have a sticker marked 73, if its a 69 then the plates must expire in 69. Go to the MVA and talk to the person that handles the special interest plates. In the Glen Burnie office that is on the 2nd floor. so you have No long lines to deal with. :cooler: You fill out a form they give you, let them check the pair of plates, let them check the current registration of the car, and last your drivers licence.
After a one time fee of $25.50 and writing the tag number down in a book they give you a proxy registration. Keep this in the car with your historic plates and the original registration. I keep mine in a big ziplock bag behind the passenger seat. And we are done. The trip to the MVA took under 20 minuets that must be some kind of record.
Now keep in mind you do have keep your historic plates up to date.
Here are some photos of my 73 plates on my GT6 sorry for the bad quality they were taken om my cell phone.
