McMaster Carr - Nut sizes

I'm getting tired or running to Ace Hardware to buy nuts. Does anyone have a list of the most common sizes and their McMaster Carr part numbers?

Mainly 3/8 UNF, 5/16 UNF and 7/16 UNF right?

My money is on Randall...

The front pages of the Bentley Blue book have
referenced all the bolt sizes and torque requirements
for the bolts in specific components- for instance
Tranny bell housing to engine is just one example.
Armstrong shock to frame- bolt size and torque.

I hope this helps. I believe every bolt in the car
can be found in this reference section of Bentley.

I am fairly certain this information is correct.
One of the Experts will chime in if I've made a
another rookie blunder.

For example for the lower wishbone arms to spring pan,

The most common sizes I used on my TR3, which would be pretty much the same for all the Triumphs are...

3/8"-24
5/16"-24
1/4"-28

As far as the McMaster part numbers, their website is very easy to use. Since their are so many style nuts that they offer, it would be best if you saw the various options they have and chose which you'd like.

Just start by entering "hex nuts" in the search box. Pick the style you want and enter the sizes and it will come up with the part numbers.

Having said all that, here are the numbers for grade 5 zinc plated nuts.

3/8"-24 ... 95462A515
5/16"-24... 95462A510
1/4"-28 ... 95462A505

Edit: If you want nylocs or a different grade, then you'll have to search around their site, but it is easy to use.

Perhaps try boltdepot.com. No need to remember part numbers as their web site is specific for picking the hardware you need.

For a TR3, I'd say 1/4 NF is probably the most common, closely followed by 5/16 NF; but I haven't really tried to catalog them. Not too many of the larger sizes, at least not in standard nuts. Fair number of 3/8 NF Nyloc and castellated though, on the front & rear suspension; plus some 7/16 NF Nyloc and castellated.

The torque tables are useful; but don't list all the bolts/nuts.

MMC changes their part numbers from time to time, so I've never saved them. What's really frustrating is that what they carry also changes from time to time ... I bought a box of hardened flat washers that were almost the perfect size to use under cylinder head nuts (at a time when the big 3 didn't have them), but when I tried to buy a second box for friend, MMC didn't have them any more.

If you think there were a lot of nuts to pick from, you'll be almost overwhelmed by the number of washer choices at McMaster.

As above, just browse for what you think you want both for lock washers and flat washers.

Some time back, I went to NAPA and bought a box of 100 of all the most common sizes, along with washers and locks. Comes in handy to have around. Not that expensive. All SAE grade 5. Now, for specialty nuts, etc., I go to a bolt store to buy the good stuff.
