Jodl had signed the instrument of surrender in Rheims on 7 May; Keitel signed a similar instrument in Berlin on 8 May. President Truman inherited a victory, and a post-war nightmare.

10 years later, almost to the day, I was a crew member on one of those K-Bags out of Lakehurst. My dad came home from the war in 45. PJ

He was a CWO in the Signal Corps, installing radar stations for the Commonwealth in the pacific islands before we entered the war, then training Army radar operators after Dec 7, '41.
