Spitfire Max tire width

Thinking about putting a wider tire on the spit. I have 5.5" wide rims. I am concerned about the tire hitting the frame on corners. What is the max tread width I can get away with?

I don't know what the maximum is, but are you sure you want to put on the largest tire you can? You end up with more unsprung weight and, remember, it takes engine power, which is not in great supply, to spin them up. You have to keep all these things in mind, not just the increased grip in cornering. A sensibly sized tire with the suspension set up well might be the best option.

Darwin, many many people have talked about this and the standard enlargement one is 175/70 and will not tear up the fender wells. With your wider rims a 185/60 will be a good fit, much wider and the frame will come into play on a full turn. A off set rim will give you a better chance, but then you get into, if I change this, then I need to change that, no end to it.
The suspension was not designed for sticky tires, so the race cars you see, are just that, completely different than the street machine you are enjoying now.

I agree. I have some great 185's on my 4A. Bridgestones, and they look really nice.

Thanks guys. Now the research begins. Car is about to go under the tarp for the winter so I will have time to figure it out.
