master cylinder upgrade

I have a 1962 sprite than I am in the process of stripping down to rebuild. I would like to upgrade to the later style master cylinder and pedals. Could some one give me some ideas on doing this. I assume that the later style assembly is wider and I would need to enlarge the opening in the firewall. Would the later model assembly run on the same centerline as the early one? Thanks in advance for your help.
 
Correct the lower portion of the hole will need to be widened, and the top opening will need to be covered. I'd suggest positioning it where it feels comfortable for you. There is not too much room for variance.
 
If I remember correctly, I just went wider (Maybe 1/2-3/4") on one side with mine.

Which way I can't remember. A flat cover plate for the top, and I went for a conversion to an electric brake light switch.

I kept using the stock bolt holes on the right side of the hole(as you are facing the panel from the engine compartment) If you use the other side holes you will run into the throttle cable hole. A notch about the width of the reinforcing angle iron and about 4" long at the bottom, left side of the hole will do it.

I also made a flat plate to fill the top of the old hole and another for a small gap at the bottom.
