Mark II i.d./lube plate

My '62 Mark II came without the i.D. plate, which I have deduced goes on the firewall below the starter solenoid (originally auto transmission, LH drive, power steering). The title carried the six-digit serial with the P prefix and BW suffix, and the car records confirm that. The six-digit serial without prefix or suffix appears on the hood latch plate. I am now preparing a new plate, and I suspect that the "body number" should carry the six-digit number, but the Heritage Trust, in granting the car a cerficiate, did not enter a number for the body, though I provided the one found on the hood latch plate. I've been told that number is to be found in the boot, though it's not the number on a secrew-attached plate next to the fuel pump. The question then, where is the body number found, absent the i.d. plate.

I will try to remember to look at my MKII on wednesday. I think that the # in the boot actually is the correct body #.

I checked all three of my MKII's and the ID tag near the fuel pump does NOT have the same body number on the plate in the engine compartment. Since it is screwed in that is understandable. Somewhere there is a spotwelded tag with the body number. I thought it might be behind the rear bumper but I could not find it. I'll do more research...I should know this.

Thanks. That is consistent with what I have been told--that plate was installed by the body maker and not by Jaguar. I haven't had anyone tell me exactly where that other tag might be found, if it exisits. In the interim I reinstalled the bonnet without installing the i.d. plate, so I guess I'm in no rush to complete marking my replacement plate. Thanks. RK
