Marina Manifold - Outake of 'Engine Donor' thread

I'm moving the Images of the Marina Manifold to a new thread so as not to make the 'Engine Donor Selection' thread too big. I see this as an offshoot of that thread as this address the manifold specifically and the other addresses engine rebuilding.

Here is the first pic of the Austin Marina manifold. While that car MAY have been equiped with with an EGR valve, it appears that it would not be the same one as on the later B's I don't know what year car this is from and speculate that it is early 70's as it seems that it was imported in the states in 72, 73, and 74.

Here you can see the twist in the carb mounting. This is because the marina's engine points slightly upward and the twist is to compensate for this. Installing on a B would mean that the carb would be tilted slightly. Shouldn't be a problem for an HIF44 (HIF6) or a Stromberg with internal an internal float bowl. An HS6 might not work so well as this would tend to mess with the float level. Compensation? Maybe.

This image shows a new MGB exhaust manifold gasket on this manifold. It's a perfect fit. It's a better fit than to my spare 12H2389 head.

And this image shows the Exhaust mounting points. I assume that they match the B, but as I have a late model car I can't say conclusively. Hopefully some one can look and verify this.

Well, I'm posting this in the name of free info. I'm very interested in parts swapping on LBC's. Seems that Leyland used alot of the same tooling on many of the Marques and I'm slowly trying to compile a list of swappable parts. I'm interested even in easy swaps from cars of other origin. Like a Saturn alternater, or a Z-car Hitachi carb.
As Dr.Entropy put it "Open Source" =)

Re: Marina Manifold - Outake of 'Engine Donor' thr

'cuse my ignorence, but what are this manifold's advantages?

Re: Marina Manifold - Outake of 'Engine Donor' thr

The Advantage is that the exhaust section is VERY close to that of an early B. The intake is also a little better designed (from what I understand). It remains a single carb manifold, and could POSSIBLY be a substitute for headers on a car that has to pass emissions. The other other advantage is that is is a better manifold for a single Carb than the stock MGB. That would be an advantage to someone wanting to retain a single sidedraft carb. Like I said, this is in the interest of information. The stock combined manifold isn't the best design, this one is a little better with a 'twist' =P

Re: Marina Manifold - Outake of 'Engine Donor' thr

Well it certainly looks to have a lot better flow characteristics on the exhaust side, than the late ZS manifolds do.

However as pointed out – no EGR valve, so unless it is hiding someplace that would be a show stopper for my application. Other than that when you compare it to the picture below of one of my nicer manifolds, you notice some other minor(?) differences. Vacuum lines, gulp valve etc. None don't seem to out of reach should someone want to try it on an 1800 B motor.

Also is it me or does the intake side look a little small compared to the B manifolds intake?

Anyway, thanks for looking.

Re: Marina Manifold - Outake of 'Engine Donor' thr

The intake side is about the same size. It doesn't seem small to me. Bummer that it doesn't have an EGR valve. If you get a chance could you take a picture of a manifold with the EGR valve off? If it's a pain, don't worry about it, mine have a blocking plate that I don't want to remove at the moment.

As for the lack of vacuum lines, on the marina manifold, this was a plus to me as I don't have to pass emissions and my car has been stripped of the emission controls (by PO who kinda botched it).
