Malwarebytes question

When I scan, it jumps from 200 to 20000 in less than a second and then goes real slow after that no matter if in safe mode or not. That would lead me to believe a have a virus that is making it skip over where it's hiding. I've tried restoring, is there anything else I can do? I need this thing to work right.

Do you have any Mailware removal software installed? My anti virus software checks all email before it lets it in. My email comes in a little slower, but much safer. PJ

What other malware symptoms do you have? While the jump seems suggestive, it might something innocuous, like a change in the object type being scanned.

I'll also suggest that you might be better off asking in the Malwarebytes forum, rather the British Cars.

When I run MalwareBytes as either a quick scan or full scan the counter jumps from around 1100 to 22000 as quickly as you describe...and I know my system is clean because I scan it with several other products as well. I have never been concerned with the rate at which it scans or the jumping in both the counter and the clock. I just let it go until it's finished.

I use a web-based email client with excellent filtering so I don;t have to worry about downloading a virus etc. The client allows me to archive my mail folders and download them to my system but by then I know they're clean.

I've gotta have something. It runs slow and locks up more than it should

Wait a few days and try again...these folks have been known to have occasional server indigestion...give it a couple days to see if it clears up.

Have you defragged the drive lately? Another suggestion is Piriform's Ccleaner.

and dump the C:/Windows/temp folder

I used to use CCleaner but it had a habit of removing things that shouldn't have been removed IF you used its registry cleaner. I have settled on the fact that the best way to clean the system is to use the disc cleaner resident in Windows. It will remove the files the system doesn't need in ALL the temp folders (there are more than one) rather than just purging them all. Win 7 does its own defrag to a schedule and Firefox contains a tool to allow you to remove cookies selectively.

SuperAntiSpyware has a good reputation as a malware remover. Spybot is also good for removing adware and spyware AND it creates a HOSTS file in the system to prevent reinfestation. It is NOT an antivirus program. Preferring to keep stuff out rather than try to find it after it gets in, I use the Windows 7 firewall behind the firewall in my Cisco router, Microsoft Security Essentials as the resident real-time AV scanner, the Microsoft MSVP HOSTS file as spy/malware protection and a few other antimalware programs as occasional on-demand scanners.

I have and use Ccleaner regularly. The laptop works great in safe mode burt is much slower in regular.

After MalwareBytes finished running, did it report finding any problems?

OK - you say the computer runs slow in normal mode.

Does it run slow doing things if you're not using your browser? (like looking at photos on the hard drive, writing a page with Word or something, etc.)

Or is it just the internet browsing that's slow? (browsers often have scripts running in the background to update page info, or they're running flash animations, or there's a gazillion ads showing up, etc.)
