The 2007 Memorial Day Run is coming up! Mark your calendars for Memorial Day (May 28) and come join the fun!

Details can be found HERE.

Or shortcut to the printable sheet by clicking HERE.

It's British Car Week, so be there or be square! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

NEW INFORMATION (added 5/11): For anyone coming from out of the area, Supercar Sunday in Woodland Hills is the day before the Memorial Day Run. There is a nice "Good Night Inn" in Calabasas, ten minutes from both events. Rates are reasonable (around $60) with AAA discounts. I'm assuming all British Car owners have AAA, right? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Darn, car won't be ready in time and I will be out of town too /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

I hope there are plans for some more fun runs this summer

Well, last year I was out of town for the Independence Run on July 4th. No one was willing to take it on, so the event never happened. This year I may once again be out of town for the same event (GoF West) so I'm praying someone will take up the challenge of keeping that great run alive. Otherwise there will not be another run until Labor Day.

It's pretty annoying that they keep scheduling GoF over a major holiday. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

For me, it's making route and information sheets, checking the roads the weekend before the event, sending and replying to tons of email, posting on forums, etc, etc. Event day is spent organizing the lazy bums who won't get into their cars and start driving (including me sometimes), leading the pack and dealing with issues as on last year's Labor Day Run when half the group missed a turn and ended up 10 miles off route.

The only thing my replacement has to do is show up and lead the pack on event day. It helps if he/she has driven the route before, preferably recently. Since there is the chance of a debacle as mentioned above, a healthy knowledge of the area's roads is a big plus. A charged cell phone battery is a good thing to help get things back on track if it goes awry.

I got part of that group back on track /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I may be a be able to step up to the plate at some point - Can't commit at the moment as the engine is still out of the Lotus (not sure how long it will be), and we are home shopping which has proven crazy, but perhaps come July....

What about more frequent less formal events? Last summer, I would often go out with the Lotus Elise folks who basically set up a meet time and place for coffee every sunday, and who ever wants to go for a ride after, goes for a ride. sometimes a couple of cars show up, other times there has been 15+ (this also has less legal implications than an organized ride)

Oh, you were in that group! Man, they went all directions. Some turned around, some went home and some went all the way around and over Topanga Canyon, then up Fernwood. Talk about the long way around!

I'll put out a cry for help if I end up out of town for the July 4th event.

I'm always up for informal gatherings! I just don't want to organize them. I already have a lot on my plate between work, being president of a car club, member of other clubs and putting on these holiday events. But I'm more than happy to show up! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Oo oo oo! A perfect opportunity to check out all the stuff I've been doing to my car. I'll do my best to make it out to Malibu again this year.

Last year, I barely made it home without stopping to let the car cool down. The stop and go traffic leaving Malibu had the temps climbing and the car acting funny as I was trying to get home.

This time you need to take a better route home anyway! Instead of going down to the 10 and through the city, caravan with us up Malibu Canyon to the 101. From there you can take the long way around by going up the 23 to the 118 and then the 210. There is usually no traffic whatsoever that way so despite the extra 15 miles, it's faster.

Yeah, I remember looking at maps AFTER I came back home and thinking that I could have had a MUCH better trip home taking the 101, to the 134, to the 2.

The route sheet has been revised as of 5/21/2007. Anyone coming should be sure they have the latest version! No route changes, just added notes at the request of several past participants. Hope to see y'all there! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

had a load of fun again Steve! Thanks for putting this drive together!

It was a great day! There's a photo thread going on the So Cal site in case anyone is interested in sharing. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Steve,

Thanks for organizing today's ride - not only was it fun, it was memorable!

The car died and rolled to a stop - no spark. The culprit was a frayed wire under the distributor cap that just finally gave out. A big thanks to Adam of the MG club for fashioning the temporary fix out of a spare condensor, and the two owners of the black MG TD's and the owner of the Riley Elf (sorry I didn't get their names) for their advice, tools and moral support on the side of the road, and thank goodness it happened on the "flatlands" and not the twisty mountain roads we had just left!

Hi Sharon,
Sorry you had a little gremlin. I must say, you did find a good spot to park though. Something about how the gravel seems to flow over the shape of your car seems just “right”. Kudos to Steve for spotting it.

I wished I had known about the problem. We got word of your breakdown just moments before you rolled into the parking lot at the beach. I'm glad you were able to continue driving home!

Hi Greg,
You're right - great picture! I guess that's why Steve's the "pro!"

Steve,
Posted a picture over at the So Cal British Motoring Forum; can't seem to get it to upload here - but you'll see we had plenty of help by the side of the road, and made it home just fine! Again, thanks for organizing a fun day!

Sharon
