One of the things that some folks didn't like about the new forum layout are the information portals or "boxs" on the left and right sides of the forum. Well, it took me awhile (all day), but I have solved that issue for you.

You may notice that, when you are logged in, there are some additional menu items in the upper navigation menu. You will now see, in addition to the previous links, <u><span style="color: #006600">Member Links</span></u> ; <u><span style="color: #006600">Site Links</span></u> and <u><span style="color: #006600">Help</span></u> These new "<span style="color: #000099">drop-down</span>" menus have most of the same links as found in the boxes on the left side. <span style="color: #CC0000">Why is this important? </span> Because now, if you want to (<span style="color: #996633">it is optional</span>) you can choose to <span style="color: #000099">turn off BOTH the left and right side boxes</span>. The right side was always selectable, but now both sides can be turned off to give you MUCH more room for reading and replying to posts.

If you want to turn off (or back on) the boxes on either side, go to <u><span style="color: #006600">My Stuff</span></u> >> <u><span style="color: #006600">My Preferences</span></u> and select the appropriate settings.

NOTE: The boxes will still be there on the Portal page regardless of your preference settings.

I wish I could say this was a trivial modification, but it wasn't. But I think it will prove useful to everyone. Let me know if you find any problems with the new menus.

See my PM - I think its how the forum is designed to work and the fact that it wasn't doin that before was a bug. However, I'll ask them about it.

Honestly, I think many people will be more likely to find the "other" places now than they would have before. I find side boxes distracting so I usually subconsciously ignore them. Menu bars tend to get the majority of my attention when navigating a web site. So now you have addressed both types of users. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

One note and it's only a minor suggestion... I seem to remember the old forum (pre-side boxes) having space to the left and right of the content. In other words, now with the side boxes turned off, the main content hits the edges of the screen. If it's a simple style sheet change, perhaps there is a way to add a bit of a buffer.
 
I think that "configurability" options like this are good. We all have different opinions as to what works for us and the ability to alter the screen gives us each a little "ownership" in the forum.

No problems so far - looks good!

I'm not sure what that would involve but can certainly look into it.
