Main bearings advice

There is a set of Vandervell main bearings for a 1500 for sale on eBay. The listing claims that these bearings are the "best ever!" What do you guys think? Are they worth the extra $'s?

Also, they are .040 under, soooo as I understand it, this would be the last time I could grind my crank if I go that low. But of course, if I have to grind the crank again anytime soon I am going to take a sledge hammer to the car. I'll put the video online, it'll be a riot.

The normal bearings from Moss are fine.
Don't go out of your way to buy a certain brand and then grind your crank down to -.040 just to fit that brand.
You should grind your crank down to the absolute minumum.
And for reference, I bought a reground crank last summer from Storm Crank (mine had already been cut several times). I paid around $450 for it.

Quite frankly, bearings are bearings now days. If you are running some sort of high compression long distance racer(Daytona 500) Michigan 77 bearing are the best. For a street car soft face low dollar bearing are fine. DONOT grind the crank more than needed.
Just keep the oil pressure up, don't spin the 1500 too tight and you should be ok.

Morris, If ya want a spare engine and tranny. I have a 1500 laying on the floor of the vortex. Come and get it free. Spares are spares. It is out of a spitfire but should be usable.

DONE! Lemme talk to the wife and see when I can come.

So far as I know, everything is absolutely the same (except, engine wise, as noted, the pan and pump are different). However, the trans has a different shifter. If you want to use your shifter (I've used a spitfire trans before, so I know this), you'll need to remove the interference fitted pins that hold the shifter in place and swap them side to side. This is the only change required. I'll show you what I mean if you don't figure it out yourself. You can check your trans (still in the car, just remove the shift gaiter and shifter) and compare with the spit one, and you'll see what I mean.

Nice grab Morris, and way nice offer jolly. This is a nice community to be a part of.
