One season, six episodes. You can stream it on PBS Masterpiece Theater.

It is a typically complicated British Mystery that simultaneously solves the murder of a mystery author as well as the mystery in his last (unpublished) book (and the fact that the last chapter is missing.)

It takes place in the present, 1953 when the mystery in the novel takes place as well as flashbacks. The story is great (not dark) and the cars are outstanding. The protagonist in the present drives a particularly tasty MGB and the 50's scenes are filled with 50's and earlier cars. We worth a watch. We rewatched it in preparation for the next season - Moonflower Murders.

ah, but Inspector Morse, and Foyle's War, are still at the top of my list!

And Foyle's 1938 Wolseley!

Note the war-time headlamp blackout cover. Many British cars at the time only used one headlamp with cover, the other was blanked out. Heaven knows what night driving was like!
