Luggage racks

I know, I know but wife is hard over on this.

Moss new catalog page A17 has what they call a factory luggage rack for a Bugeye but it is too wide, looks dorkey.

The rack for MK IIs on the right side of the page is much narrower and really lookes nice.

Wonders if the MK II rack would fit on a Bugeye, why not? Only problem I see as it would need to be flatened a bit.

She also wants a wicker picnic basket for on the rack at shows.

And there will be no snickering please. I got to live with this lady.

S-H-U-D-D-E-R!!!!

My next Bugeye is going to be Mr.Fred and he going to be bad bad bad. Can you say burnout?

Gesh, I still got to live with her and she does not complain about the bills, just says do it right.

Can you make a removeable rack? I'm thinking of wide thick leather straps from cockpit to under back end with the rack bolted or rivetted to it? (think horse harness leather with big bucles - the kind that hold hoods on Morgans)

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif There was a guy at an MG car show not long ago who had one like that on the trunk of his MGB.

Somewhere in the past I have seen ones that mounted on small chrome pads and were of course removeable.

No help here, but I'm just not a fan of racks on a Bugeye. Spoils the lines. A lightweight removable one maybe, with an empty wicker basket? A prop, in other words, only for shows.

Yech.

I know, I know, will put it off as long as possible.

I thought about a luggage rack, but it is just something else to polish and clean around... and ruins the lines of the car. Instead I just get a little more creative with my packing.

I know! A little Bugeye trailer made from the butt of a Bugeye.

Harbor sells a light trailer that other friends have used with their lbcs. A cartop carrier bolted on adds a nice weatherproof carrier. My thought is to come off the rear bumper supports for the trailer hitch. But, it isn't a wicker picnic basket. We all have images and I'd bet your wife's is pretty firm. I like the wide leather mounting for the rack and use it just for shows and her picnic basket.

Jack, there is a blue bugeye on EBay that has a luggage rack which has a flat bar on the bottom of it. It would spread the load and you probably could mount it with a leather strap.
