Luggage rack differences?

Hi, I am looking for the original luggage rack (the one with the separate feet) for my Midget. I have noticed some racks have 4 bars and others have 5. Is the 4 for the Midget and the 5 for the MGB? With either work for my Midget? Thanks for any info!

I don't think any of them are original though...most were aftermarket when the cars were new and some installed by the dealers were different for different years.

There were two main styles...on like you are describing after 1974 and the "strap mount" before then, if I recall correctly...which might be subjective. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

If my research is correct, there never were any "Factory" luggage rack for any MG, they all were "dealer options" The most commeon one was an american made rack which did start being used sometime around 1974 and does come in many sizes (usually described by the number of slats) I have even seen a 7-8 slat version on a Pontiac Sunbird ( which I was told was a "Dealer option" for those) I have yet to do any research, but if true. might be a source for those ellusive plastic feet and the chrome retainers. The answer to the question is... I don't believe the 6 slat version will fit on the boot lid of a Midget. If it does, it will probably look out of scale.

Before '74 there was a huge mix of different luggage racks. Most looked kind of small on the MGB and Big on the Spridgets. All looked kind of tall for either location.

i have a 4 bar rack on my midget and a 5 bar rack on my b.... other than that they look identical....and may cross mount...maybe....
