The seller is Kai from 6-Pack and you can at least trust the source on this one.

I'd prefer an Optima, which will be my next battery, but I'm not looking for Concours, just to make sure that it starts every time.
 
Moss sells the Optima/Lucas fake battery cover that is supposed to make an Optima look like a Lucas, if that makes sense.

Dale, I have the Optima and wouldn't go back to a wet battery for the world. Never a problem with leaks, I don't even use a battery box anymore. I fabricated a custom bracket to hold the gel battery down (it ain't movin') and use sheets of rubber for pads, back and bottom.
 
I know and like and respect Kai very much...but this really isn't "Concours correct" for a TR3 or TR4. It definitely IS a Lucas battery (no doubt -- the drilled terminal posts are a giveaway even without a Lucas sticker), but it appears to be a rather later one, maybe 1970s or so vintage? An original Lucas battery in, say, a TR3, would've had individual round, threaded caps for each cell.

Yeeaaaaa, I think for what It would cost to "rebuild" the original battery, I'd go for tha Optima with the fake-o cover.

I'm on my third Lucas battery in 17 years which I bought from Antique Battery in Hudson Ohio. They cost about the same and have the name LUCAS moulded into the front of the battery casing under licence from Lucas. It's not a sticky label that's added to the battery like we see in the offer on e-bay.

You can pay $10.00 extra to have the leaded links between the cells open and visible as the original batteries were.

Don't message them via their web-site. They don't seem to read it. Phone them. They're a small place and will do anything you ask. For example, I picked up the last one at their place and they had it filled and fully charged for me - because I asked them. Five or six years is about the life of these batteries - just like most other commercial batteries.
 
I put an Optima in the TR6.
I was dissapointed that it only
lasted 6-7 years.
I figured that for $125,it should last
about 10 years.You can buy a couple of
good batteries for that price.

I must say that I have seen many beautuful restored TR's...and most of them have some ugly, el-cheapo battery sitting right in front of God and everybody...if the battery was under the floor, nobody would seee it...but right on the firewall it's always the first thing I notice...

At least paint your non-OEM battery black!

Somehow, a Pep Boys battery just doesn't look right in a vintage car...

Well, I've been as guilty as anyone on this. My last TR3 had a "Fleet Farm" battery in it...but I pulled off the sticker...and it was a black case. It sorta looked OK...sorta.

But you can understand my point...it's like opening the hood of a TR and finding a Holley four barrel carburetor on the engine...yea, it works, but....
