/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif I have found that Lucas electrics are usually bullet-proof, unless they have been hacked about by DPOs who don't know what they're doing! Connectors, and the solidity and firmness thereof are the usual suspects.
Most electrical problems are related to age. Lucar connectors were not meant to last more than 10 years max. They have no corrosion resistance. Clean 'em up and put some dielectric grease on them.
I needed nunyas battery last night. Barely made it home last night after the alternator gave me the finger 55 to 60 miles from home at 1am. I'm surprised it kept running as the headlights were just about out by the time I got home. Of course right before I left I was using the headlights to light up a friends boat for 20 minutes as we were installing a set of guide boards.
Oh well this is what I guess I get with messing with a good thing. Original alternator went 31 years and was working fantastic but the bearings were going. New one lasted 4 months and less than 500 miles and toast.
Time to play with the counter monkeys and try to find a bosh festivous alternator.
