Lucas lead 'helmet-type' battery cables

Restoring a Tri-Carb BN7 and need to make up the battery cables, 2-6v in series. I have the helmet-type ends and can source the cable locally, but need some instruction on soldering these together.

Does anyone have a real good tutorial on making up battery cables using these original Lucas all-lead battery cable terminals? I had heard that you heat the terminal then insert the cable into the hole, seems heating the terminal to this temp would melt the whole thing.

Any and all advice would be appreciated.
TIA,
Bill

Roger Moment (rmoment@comcast.net) should be able to help you.

Pure lead melts at 621F whereas 50/50 solder is fully molten at 420F so you have a fair margin. Use a big temp controlled soldering iron or even a temp controlled heat gun and there should be no danger of melting them

British Wiring have the fabric braided cable per foot if you want the original look
