I've got some charging issues with the Tunebug -- ignition light stays on. I'm still running a generator and positive ground, but have considered switching to an alternator/negative ground as I'm going to be switching to an electronic tach anyways.

I still have the alternator that came with the donor car ('74 Midget), and I've got all the brackets as well. Alternator is marked as:

Lucas
23860A
18 - ACR
12V48 75

It was working on the donor car so I see no real reason not to use it. I like that I don't have to mess with fabricating brackets as this unit was on this motor before anyways.

I'm still reading up on the conversion process, but I see no reason not to proceed with this unit. Thoughts?

Well obviously something is wrong. Changing to the alternator will allow you to get rid of the generator and the regulator.

One or the other is bad, so........

Most likely the case, so I figured it was a good time to make the swap. Only reason I stayed with the generator in the first place was for the tach drive. Don't need that drive anymore, so I might as well move forwards.

With the Lucas alternator in my car, the "ign" light still works normally, too, no relays or any futzing around.

Good to know, thanks. A project for this week I think.

Well, solved the generator issue -- one of the wires running to the generator had come loose. So I'll keep the generator for the near future.

I did pull the alternator and bits out of the shed, though, so I'll get everything cleaned up and ready to go.

Have the alternator tested Drew.

I will, Jack. At least now it's not a rush-job to get the car running, so I can take a bit more time to get everything ready to go and tested/rebuilt as necessary.
