Lubricate primary gear?

I have replaced the primary gear oil seal and before I put everything back together, I need to find out if you have to put any grease or oil on the crankshaft before you slide the gear back on.

My feeling tells me yes (metal on metal) but the Haynes manual does not mention anything.

The bushings in the primary gear typically are fed a little engine oil. I'd put a few drops of engine oil on the bushings and the shaft prior to assembly. The engine will supply more oil during normal operation.
