lowering 1500 if ground clearance already reduced

I have a question about using the options that reduce ride high on a 1500.

The options lower the ride high about an inch. So my question is if ground clearance is actually less on the 1500 (3 1/4 inches) verses 5 inches for the 1275 is that problematic when driving?

Would reducing the clearance cause one to hit things more often in regular driving situations? Thanks for any feedback you can offer.
 
I PUT 67 sprite springs on the front of my 78 and also lowered using the spring pan bolt method. I haven't done it to the back yet, so it looks a bit jacked up back there.
I do have to slow way down over the speed bumps, that's all though.
 
I also put 1275 springs on and had my rear springs de-arched an inch or so. I also took out the spacers on the rear springs though every time I look i the mirror I contemplate reinstalling them
 
Why is the ground clearance less on a 1500 than a regular spridget? The chassis seem very similar.

Also, I have a spare bolt and spacer set if you're interested. I'm not really looking to make a mint on it.

Chris, good question and I really don't know for sure why the 1500 ground clearance is less then the 1275.

When I look under my 1500 the lowest thing I can see on the car appears to be the exhaust pipe. Perhaps even though the height of the 1500 was raised an inch or so to meet Federal Regulations the addition of the 1500 series motor to the midget body lowered this part? Does anyone know for sure?

I remember reading that the front suspension lower a arm is relocated lower and the spring height was raised to meet bumper requirements.

I really don't think a 1500 car has less ground clearance than a 1275 car.

If fact, I'd say they have <span style="text-decoration: underline">more</span> ground clearance.
What is the source of this info?
 
Looking under mine with the front lowered and the back at standard height minus the rubber bumpers I'd have to say the real limiting factor is the angle of the exhaust pipe. Otherwise there seems to be a lot of room under there.
Maybe getting that bent to ride a bit closer to the bottom of the car would help?
I haven't done anything to my rear suspension yet, maybe this spring I'll attack that.

What I really need to do is get under the car and make sure all the fasteners are tight. I have a clunk like maybe some bolts that hold the shocks on are getting loose. Hopefully that's all it is... :wink:
