Lotus Elite Steering Column lock replacement

Does anyone know of an alternative vehicle to get a steering column lock from?

Just to add to todays excitement, the steering column lock has decided that I am not allowed to insert my key. It's completely jammed. I've tried wd40, etc. The key didn't want to turn at all the other day, so I'm not to suprised. Thus I cannot turn the front wheels.

Before I go and just remove it and live without a steering lock as the usual US sources (JAE, David Bean) don't have any available but I figure the car has a lot of various BL parts that I might be able to source.

cheers,

$60? That's it?

Wow. Figuring (even if it works), a new spitfire unit from moss is $140.

Thanks for the heads up!

A quick followup:

I found out the column steering lock is from a rover p6, which isn't exactly a common part here in the US either.

Have you exhausted other possibilities? Turned the wheel back and forth, pushed on various buttons and so forth? If it worked before (did it??) it should work again.

Have a nice day
Steve

I was able to get the whole column lock assembly off (it was pretty easy actually) and get it apart. The key mechanism is actually seized up and the springs are bad.

Other then that, it is in pretty good shape. The Elite unit uses actual screws not safety bolts, so I might be able to have it re-keyed and just re-attach it.

Until then it's start with a screw driver as needed.
