"Hundreds of passengers were left stranded yesterday after a Jumbo Jet from Los Angeles to Japan was grounded – because a metal baggage container was sucked into its engine.

The Japan Airlines Boeing 747 was preparing to depart a terminal gate at Los Angeles International Airport when the incident occurred.

Airport officials said the vacuum created by the air intake of the engine was so strong that it pulled the empty container off a baggage cart that was either parked or driven too close to the aircraft."

Yeah, and for the finale they will either blow up the engine or plane.

I thought they push 747's back before they start the engines. Perhaps Mr. Pilot cranked the starter a little early?

Kinda like when I start my TR6 without a battery....push start.

You'd have to push THAT beast reallyREALLY fast to light those engines off!

I heard from a student about a common prank played on newbie military helicopter crewmen. The veterans would tell the FNGs that the helicopter needed a push start. As the newbies pushed, the pilot would tap the brakes just as he hit the APU START switch.

Oh, those military guys!

heeheeee!!!! I LOVE it!!

Yeah, like the Fire Control Technician striker who came into the search radar room, sent there by his Leading Fire Control Technician, to see if we had a spare fallopian tube they could use.

Man, I HATE it when that happens!!!

cold plugs, looks to me that its been pushed back out of the gate getting ready to taxi otherwise hed be at a 90deg. angle in relation to the taxi way. when i worked at newark ariport as a/c mech in the late 70's, there was a young guy up on the wing of falcon jet doing engine runs with the pilot, they got signals grossed and the guy got sucked in the intake of the running engine butt first, lucky for him he was a rather ro-bust fellow and survived, couldnt sit down for a couple ah weeks. :yesnod:
