Lost history found

amazing - thanks

I thought you were going to tell me the history of "the island" before the others or anyone else got there but I think that was covered in season 4.

Wonderful pictures! Lots of smiling, brave faces.

NZ lost over 18,000 men in WW 1 (I just looked it up). Over 1.5% of their total population......a huge number.
I wonder how many of those guys made it back safely?

Yeah, stuff keeps popping up all the time. While I was googling to see if I could find the rest of those 63 pics, I ran across the Great War forum where someone in the UK found 500 glass plate negs from WWWI in a fireplace!

I'm a member of the Aerodrome Forum (I like WWI airplanes.) It's amazing, there's a forum out there to cater to any interest you have. Maybe I'll join the Great War forum so I can view those pics.

Years ago, my grandfather gave me about 80 glass plates negatives that he had taken. I previously had made prints of all of them in my darkroom (when I had one), but just last week, I decided to see if I could scan them with my HP All-in-one printer, scanner, copier. It took a little playing around to get decent exposures, but I got most of them scanned in. There's a lot more in the original negatives then this scanner can capture. Maybe someday I'll get a better scanner.

Here's one of my grandmother...circa 1936 from a 5x7 glass plate negative.

I don't visit them very often... That fireplace find sounds great, I only wish I could make a find like that...

Although I did acquire a fairly large collection of WW1 postcards from a friend's antique shop, I think about 60 images in total, I've only scanned a few of them so far...
