He was very lucky to survive the Aeracobera crash. The aeracobera was a good aircraft, especally for ground support, but fell out of favor with most pilots because of the door! Talked to WWII pilots years ago and one thing I remember them saying about the P-39 was, If you needed to get out of the aircraft in a dive, it was near imposible to open the door. Makes sense! PJ
