I don't think that's what they mean when they say
"Drop a few gears".

Knew a guy back in my high school days who blew up a manual by putting it in reverse while running about 50mph. Said he thought he could do that to get a "quick" stop. Didn't get the stop, but did get a trail of bits and pieces...

I thought the same thing, plus the car would probably be much further away with some sort of fluid trail behind it by the time a driver realized and reacted to it.

Seems like there would be a LOT more damage to the bell housing and the rest of the case if it really went under the rear axle.

Probably staged for the internet.

Staged for the 'net?

Never! Who would be so desperate for attention to do that?

(Let's see - how many Likes and Views will it get? And please forward this to everyone on your email contact list.)

I don't really grasp the need by so many for those likes. This forum and a couple other British car one are as close as I come to social media. My daily life isn't that interesting many days to me, much less to try to get folks I don't know to cheer what I had for lunch, how I mow the lawn and all the other aspects of continuing to breathe day after day. And I'm not interested in what others might post as pictures of a drink, meal, clothes and such they're occupied with. Talking LBCs, that I enjoy. But the rest, doesn't change my life to know or not.

Wife and I watch some youtube in the late evening. Watching a usual car repair at a shop, he did a video on stupid repairs, like glue instead of oil, we don't watch him anymore. I know people are stupid enough to try it.

I know this one is probably staged, but it does bring back bad memories. One time, a few years ago, wife and I were driving back from church in our 07 Hyundai Santa Fe. The car had over 250k miles on it, so I guess what happened next wasn't a huge surprise. As we were tooling down I-40, about 2 miles from our exit, the transmission went out - wizzzzz, no power to the wheels! I managed to pull over on the shoulder and, after playing with the gear lever awhile, I discovered if I manually put it in 1st I could get the car to move, but only just. I ended up driving the car 30 miles into Albuquerque the next day to get a new transmission (rebuilt) installed. Ever try to drive 30 miles in 1st gear? Wasn't fun but I made it and saved $125 for a tow fee.

Ever notice every time there is a mass shooting they make reference to messages on social media sites.
I think our lives would be better if those site were shut down, and yes I'm serious.
Just the thought of these sights when they were started got me thinking nothing good can come from them.
