Loosening adjustable steering wheel

Hi guys,
quick question. I am having trouble loosening the locking collar on my steering wheel shaft. So.... Just to be sure, as you sit in the driver's seat and look at the wheel, which way do you turn the collar to loosen it? Is there a better place to grab the collar to get the best leverage?

Lin, on my BJ8 if your sit in the drivers seat reach around the wheel & turn it clockwise as your looking at it. The ribs on the collar are the best place to grab it.

A rubber strap wrench will give you some leverage and not hurt the collar.

Use a Leather one it will not etretch and slip.
