Looks like I'm a proud owner of a 1953 MG TD MKII

New member here. So I was talking with my uncle over the xmas holiday and we always drift to discussions about his TD Mark II. So we were really talking about it the other day and he stated that as he is getting older and the car hasn't been started in like 14 years that he is concerned with giving it a good home. His son had it briefly but totally neglected it so my uncle took it back and put it in a barn and there it sits. Supposedly it was all there and solid 14 years ago, everything working except it would not hold 2nd gear. He asked if I'd be interested in giving it a proper home. He knows I've restored british bikes and have the full complement of whitworth tools etc. I about fell of the chair and told him definately. So he is getting the title to sign over and we will be driving from Florida to Maryland in april to go get it. He is completely pumped about this as he really wants to see it going again and he just doesn't have the health to do it. I told him that I would have it running and mechanically sound before xmas of 08 and he would be driving it next year at this time. He was so excited, as am i. So as we know, nothing is ever free, I'll have to pay for gas to go get it and bring it back plus the parts to fix it, but it was originally a west coast car with no rust and supposedly very solid. Honestly, I'd do it just to see the look on his face when he gets to drive it again, he so dearly loves that car. Win win situation for me, I get a fantastic car and I get to make my uncle a very happy man in the process. I sure wasn't expecting that Christmas gift. Will look real good sitting next to my Triumph Trophy and Norton 850 Commando. I'll have a ton of questions, including the location of a good how to article on tranny rebuild. The manual is pretty good but I'd like a little more info. Thanks in advance to you all.

A Mark II.... Cool!!! Those are rare and valuable compared to a standard TD. I would recommend keeping it as original as possible to retain value and because it is a fairly unique car. You should enjoy it greatly and I'm sure your uncle will as well. Great story!

Be sure to hop over to the MG forum with questions specific to the car.
