and thinking about a 08-10 rav 4 or crv or compass. All opinions appreciated
 
I just got a RAV4 two weeks ago. I know it's only a short time but I love it. We almost got the CRV but after doing some research and reading the CRV forums I can tell you that today's Honda is not the same as it used to be. There is lots of buyers remorse on the 2015 CRV due to bad vibration issues and Honda's reply to all the unhappy owners is SILENCE.
Yes, I know you're not looking at the 2015 but why rely on a manufacturer that does not stand behind their product?
Just my thoughts.

I know nothing about the compass. The other two are both so good I'd get whichever one you like best or find in the best shape because you could be driving it for a long time.
 
I would just make the observation that a Chrysler product would not typically be in the same category as Honda or Toyota. Sadly, I still find North American cars to be pretty much disposable. BTW I would not be afraid to add Kia or Hyundai to the list - a lot of bang for the buck anymore.
 
I have 2 coworkers that have owned Jeep Compasses. The y both have told me they will never buy a Chrysler product again. I've always been a Jeep guy, but that was when Jeeps were real. The new stuff is just minivans with muscular bodies. Sad to have to recommend imports over American products, but I agree with the above. First choice Rav 4, second CRV. That RAV with the v6 is one peppy car. I have driven several of them. They are nice.
 
My wife got an 08 RAV4 two and a half years ago, it has been our daily driver, and we have no complaints about it. It is a little boring and doesn't have much pep, but other than that its great.
 
I also have sadly purchased my last dodge product. I have owned many over the years and when my truck dies(any day now) or totally falls into a heap of rust(also any day) it will not be replaced with a dodge. My son has a hyundai and it has been trouble free for 5 years now.
 
I can understand why you'd want to sell the A4 (although it's a very pretty vehicle). A buddy of mine has an independent VW/Audi shop and these things keep him busy.

In our family, we have several folks who have bought the new ~Ford Escape~ (Ford Kuga in Europe). Very nice vehicle and built in N. America if that matters to you (these days, it does to me). Some models can tow 3500 lbs. We have a 2008 US-built Accord right now (decent car), but we will be looking at an Escape in another year or so.

2010 RAV4 here. The 3.5L 269hp V6 definitely motivates it. I think it has a towing capacity of 3500lb., if that is a consideration. The second seat is a little uncomfortable, but 99% of the time it is just wife and I.
 
Nial, I love the a4 but I have about $1200 in suspension work to do in the near future, needs a secondary air pump for e test and also has 260,000km, uses premium fuel at about 18 cents a litre more than regular. Still a peppy little car (I love the 1.8 turbo) It also needs a fender and rear hatch (rust through) and Audi Canada says if I pay them $750 they will do them under goodwill. Total cost is about $2000.I have fought with them for almost 6 mths regarding their 12 year perforation warranty. Car has never been in an accident or repainted,so as you can see I am a little p---ed off with Audi. oh and I just replaced all the coil packs AGAIN
