Off Topic Looking for a TR4a

Howdy, I'm beginning to start looking for a TR4a in decent shape, good frame and minimal rust, a driver would be good and OD would be nice. I'm open to unfinished projects as well and I'm much better at mechanics than body work. Please keep an eye out for me if you have or know of a good candidate!
Thanks, Rut

Not enough to do with your MGB and Bugeye?

TR4 is a great car, good luck with the search.

Got to put one in the barn for a future project and I've always wanted another '67 TR4a!

You might want to re-post this on the Triumph board as well - good luck!

JP, thanks, posted in MG, Spridget, and Triumph!Rut

Does it have to be an "A" or is a TR4 OK? There's one on the Santa Barbara CA Craigslist now, which looks promising to me, and a decent price: https://santabarbara.craigslist.org/cto/4816244943.html If I were in the market, I'd look at it closely. I looked for a TR4 or 4A to restore for about a year before giving up and getting my TD. I just couldn't find anything reasonably close that made a good project--everything was either a complete, unrestorable dog or too good (=too expensive) to be a reasonable project. Hope you do better.

Steve,
Thanks, I'm really looking for a project vs a restored car or driver (read cheap). If the bones are good and it has no wreck or bad rust damage, I'm a player. Thanks for looking out for me and keep those cards and letters coming!

I found a 67 TR4a IRS in Lexington, S Carolina and now I need to go get it or have it shipped. I bought it shortly after I started this thread and I'm waiting on the shipper to have a return load so he can bring mine.

This was on eBay, I think, and it disappeared before the auction had run its course. Now I know what happened to it.

I thought, when I saw it, that it would make a pretty good project--just the right combination of promise and decrepitude. I wish I had found one like it when I was searching for a TR4. Sigh.

Steve,
I found it on Craigslist after it had been advertised for more than a month and thought it was a fair deal. The passenger door may be from a TR4 since there is no trim or the trim might just be missing. The car looks straight with pretty good fit between all panels.
The first thing I'll do after a complete inspection is remove the body from the frame and have the frame blasted, epoxy primed and painted and I'll reassemble it with new or rebuilt components. I have a big 'dolly' that I built for my Bugeye to roll around on and think the Triumph will fit with a little modification. I can then disassemble the body panels and brace the body for mounting on the rotisserie for any rust repair.
My next problem is what to do with 3 LBCs? My shop is actually a garage built into the pool house and it's long enough for all 3, but the pool filter system is in there and chlorine is not kind to anything. SWMBO want me to sell one or more after I finish, but that's not the plan (mine anyway).
Rut

Congrats on the find. My first LBC was a TR4 -- too much welding for me to do (though it was eventually finished up by someone else). Really nice looking cars.

And good luck with that "plan." Keeping 3 of them around if the Missus is not excited could be complicated.

On top of that we are looking for a lot to build our 'retirement' home...1 story, no pool, 36" doors, 5 car garage/shop. I like the country and SWMBO likes a neighborhood and I hope we can find a compromise.
Rut

Sounds like my dream place, Rut.
