looking for a 2 post lift

My garagemahal has evolved to the point that it's time to get a lift. I would prefer the 2 post variety. Anyone know where I might be able to buy a used lift? I live in Maryland so it would be best if I could find one on the east coast (shipping$$$).
There's a local company here that supposedly sells used lifts,...however they seem to never have any for sale. I guess you gotta know someone to get one from them. They don't have any used lifts right now, and don't expect any in the near future, but they would be more than happy to sell me a nice new one for $3,100 installed.

Kinda hate to spend that kinda money on a lift that will get used rarely. It's not like I'm gonna use it to make a living, this is just a hobby. I've heard of used lifts selling in the $1,000-$1,500 range. That's sounds a lot more do-able to me.

Anybody got any leads? or Advice?

Perhaps I should just spend the money and get a new one? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Beware, Tom. The day you get a lift in your home garage is the day your bevy of friends quadruples! It never fails. (You must have a really tall ceiling.) You need to get you a "secret lift" if such a thing exists. I feel sorry for my friend Dave down near where I live. He has EVERYTHING in his metal-building garage, and WAY too many friends. I, for one, rarely (key word) impose.

I can see that coming. Especially since I'm in 3 car clubs /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The garage is a 24' x 24' with a 12' ceiling, and a 6+ inch concrete slab. Getting a lift was always part of the grand plan. I was just hoping to get one used. I got a feeling it will take a lot of looking, and waiting to get a used one.

I've got a Bend-Pak 4 poster but they have two post asymetric (to open the doors on the lift) that looks good. They usually ship to the nearest freight terminal for free. I unpacked mine at the terminal by myself and loaded it on a trailer. Mine was 1500lbs shipped but went together fairly easily. Hammer drilling 16- 3/4" holes in the floor to bolt it down was the hardest part.
Make sure that you do all your measurements to get what will fit in your space. Double check the dimension before you order. My experience is most positive.
The advantage of the 4-post is that I can store 2 cars in 1 space. My ceilings are just 10'6" so I have to becareful but two will fit.

Just a devil's advocate question here:
What happens when your house insurer gets wind of this (possible) new addition to your pile of toys.... ?

I bought mine from a guy that does service station maintenance. I called him up and left a standing order, then one day he called me and said he was in my area picking one up and he'd give me a deal if he could drop it off that day. I would talk to some of the local gas station type shops and find out who does their maintenance and see if you can make a contact. Good luck.
