Looking at a 1960 Riley 100

Hello, I am fairly new to this Forum, but have restored a few MG's. I recently came across a 1960 Riley 100. Decent shape but in need of a good clean up. Can anyone give me any directions to the soft spots in the car besides the fact it is British and Lucas electrics? Also, are there any others for sale out there so I can get an idea of value when refinished?

Thanks

Glen Lucas

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's the Riley One-Point-Five. Nice little cars, decent handling, able to keep up with modern traffic even today.

Mechanicals are straightforward, and they share many parts with other cars in the BMC stable.

As with most cars of this age, rust is a biggie. Check rocker panels, under the wheelarches, and the floor for rust. Lucas electrics are really pretty good, it's when they are neglected that they can start to cause problems.

I always liked these cars, very nearly bought one but ended up with an MGB GT instead.

Never heard of a Riley 100, but by 1960 Rileys were badge-engineered versions of other BMC stuff - usually Wolseley-like.
So it could be a 1.5, as Steve says, or a Farina Wolseley 15/60 - the 4/68- based on Cambridge, Oxford, etc.

do you have pictures?

Pictures? Yes, as a matter of fact I do. Perhaps I should have looked at them earlier. The current owner called the car a Riley. It is badged Rover 100. In fact, the VIN plate says Rover. Does this help narrow down your knowledge base?

Unfortunately, I am so new to this sight I cannot see how to attach pictures. However, I can if acceptable send some pictures off list.

Thanks,

Glen Lucas

After you make your post, click the edit button at the bottom of the post, then click on file manager, browse to find the pic you want to post, click "add file", then "done adding files" and there you go! PS: limit the picture size to 400 pixels!

or you can post them for free at flickr.com and post the link - trust me - we're ALL curious now!

does it look like this?
