The wife and I were about 30 minutes from home on I-40 after attending her High School reunion in Idaho, when I spotted what I think is a genuine 1939 Jaguar SS100 on the back of a trailer. Oh man, would I love to know where that thing was headed! (See attachment for photo)

Basil

Wow! You weren't kidding when you said you saw something special! There are a number of SS100 replicas around, but that one appears to be the real deal.
I wonder what the story was? (and how are those bikes connected to the SS?).
It looks like it has some "patina", like it was sitting around for a while. I wonder if it really was a "barn-find".
I'd have to guess that it's worth close to 7 figures (in US dollars).

what a treat it must have been to see that... I wonder if Terry Larsen had/has something to do with it...? Could have been on the way towards his place. In any case, surprising to see such a car on an open trailer.

I have no idea where it was from or where it was headed, but I sure would like to be on the receiving end! (I can dream, can't I?)
The Closest I could ever hope for is:
This Replica! (check out their videos)

Funny you should say that Basil... I was going to end my post with something like 'A SS100 is a dream car'... but deleted tat part. Great minds; same gutter.

Wow!!!! I would have followed that trailer and flagged it down. Yes, that Jag has all the ear-marks of the real thing.

If I had been by myself I probably would have done that, but I was with Mrs Basil and we had been driving all day and were tired and anxious to get home.

Ohmygod! Turned one down in '66 because 800 pounds seemed like too much! A school friend of mine who I still see most summers, Roger Williams..ex of "Willhire"..makes the Suffolk replica which is great 'til the ragtop gooes up then its crap. Cheers. Great picture! Does that mirror belong to a C5 Corvette?

Yup! That's Basil's lil' red Corvette.

By the way, those are some great motorcycles on the front too.

A local collection here has a gorgeous SS100 -- perfectly restored. On the wow and amazing scale, the SS100 isn't even in the top 5 cars of this collection, which includes one of the original Batman cars, two famous MG racing specials (one is the R1,) and a few Ferraris that you'd give an arm and a leg for.
