I looked at an '82 242 today.Turbo Volvo wheels,
172K miles,needs a defroster motor replaced (included).
Needs a little work - minor rust,will take $1000.
Thoughts & ideas on these cars? Volvo or TR7?
Oh!,also 4 speed with overdrive.

Doug, I've got an '89 740 Turbo wagon, and a '95 850 sedan, and love them both. The 240 series are virtually bulletproof, easy to work on, and have excellent support systems via the internet.
The 4 speed with overdrive is considered a better trans than the straight 5 speed.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy another older Volvo, but draw the line at the later ones. Commonly referred to as "Fiords".

I had one, it was a great car. Long time ago...

The defroster motor was a PITA to replace.
I got it all taken apart, couldn't get the new one to fit.
Finally paid a Volvo shop to finish the job.

Good cars. The blower motor is an 8 hour job for a tech who is used to doing it. Begin by taking out the two front seats, and work your way forward until reaching the firewall. Motor is the last thing to come out. Pitiful exhaust systems, but otherwise, solid as a rock.

Thanks Paul, that makes me feel better.
At least I got my old one out and I got the new one mostly back in, just couldn't get it all buttoned up right. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
