MGB Look what a fellow 70 MGB owner gave me:

Over on the MG Enthusiasts site I bumped into a fellow 70 split bumper owner and we started talking about the unique little parts we both need.
He had an extra one of these so he just sent it to me, really made my day!

In case you didn't know, they used a globe & bail light on each side of the rear bumper for license plate lights, apparently only for January - June 1970. I'm not sure of the exact dates, and I've heard this same item was used elsewhere for some other lighting purpose on another model and year.
If you know what else this fits - please tell me.

Nice indeedie.

Are those not the same glass used in the earlier cars' chrome bezels? Pre-'68?

I don't know, you mean the kind that had half chrome & half glass? If it's the one I think you mean that was smaller than this. I should put a quarter or something next to this to illustrate the size.

Better'n 'at: I'll measure one!

Here's a picture with a AAA & an AA battery for reference:

1-1/4" OD at base, 1-1/16" tall.

Yeah, Steve but if it FITS the bezel...

That's a concave "bump" that the wire bail catches to hold it on.

Mine measures 1 9/16" diameter on the round part of the base and 1 3/4" tall. It has two flat sides on the base opposite each other, the diameter of that is 1 3/8".

Oh - and there is no Bezel. I'll go out & take a shot of it on the car in a few minutes.

Here's the pics with both globes on the car.
I pulled the working bulb so I can possibly find a source for them, picture of bulb also included:

Yup. But the dome is obviously not interchangeable with the older ones. rats.

Thought we'd stumbled on a good bodge. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Well, hopefully now that I have one for each side I'll never have the need for another.

I'm off to the auto parts monkeys store, I will see if they have the bulb...

The 70 I had was the same as the photos, but I don't remember the bulb looking like that. Maybe it did.

?

They had some bulbs that looked like mine, but the one listed in their book for the application was AWOL.
I'll try to go to NAPA and see what they have.
This bulb just plugs in, doesn't twist.

I found the Sylvania 168 bulb to be the same as the bulb that was in the left side. I bought two & installed, the left works but the right does not.

I need a little break in the weather so I can get my multimeter out there and see what's wrong.

hmmm... I think first I'll take the bulb out from the left & insert it in the right side just to be sure I have a good bulb there.
