oops. I figured you wouldn't read this thread, it being all technical and such. But I shoulda figured you would like the pictures.

[/ QUOTE ] shg, you should know how sensitive we "arteeesteses" are i know you be one in a former life, and i like everything "randy" does specialy the tools! my original "square body" s.u. pump totaly went into melt down mode about $380.00 for a new one, with a minor mod. i replaced it with a new "round body" s.u. pump $115.00 i also added an anzet aux fuel pump $25.00 i "shock" mounted it on the foward side of the trunk/boot bulk head but havnt decided on a place to put the switch and i like "randys" idea, i havnt had the time to figure out if i should plumb the new pump in line with the s.u. or around it. anyone got an idea on that? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

My recommendation would be to put the two (2) pumps in parallel, not series. If you put them in series (inline), you'll likely increase the pressure over what the needle & seat want to see (1-1/2 to 2-1/2 psi; been a while__going from memory).

Parallel, with both pumps running, would increase volume, but not pressure. It also makes more sense when the second pump is used as a backup. Plenty of room under the dash for a toggle (or even a second "dimmer" type switch you can hit with your foot).

randy, thanks, i can appreciate the diametrically opposed propertys of press and volume but was curious if the s.u. pump failed could an aux. pump either suck or push fuel through it, also id intended to plumb in parallel in the event the s.u. sustained a leak. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

I have a filter, Facet and SU mounted in series in that order with a switch to select between the two pumps (see photo attached). The SU will pull through the Facet and vica versa. No problems.

[/ QUOTE ] michael, parden my spelling of the new pump i installed it is a "facet" same as yours, the reason id rather plumb in parallel is because the solder on the banjdo fitting for the press. side of my old pump developed a hair line crack that drove me "more" nuts,it had me believing the tinny leak was at the fuel line nut that goes into the bandjo fitting, i cleaned it up and re-soldered it fixed the leak, heres how i mounted the new "facet. see attch.

Why don't you guys just dump the SU fuel pump and the puny Facet for the big Facet interupter type?

I'll try to get some pictures up here (of mine) in a little while...

On cue...

The whole fuel system, from start to finish (okay, maybe not finish, as I've left out the intake valves, sparkplugs, exhaust valves, headers....)

Looking good as always Randy. I have a Masters pump in my wife's 3000 that looks pretty similar to the round Facet. Unlike an SU it clatters all the time but I have it soft-mounted and it is not loud enough for me to hear when underway.

Best--Michael

The poor judges; they wouldn't get halfway around my car without going into seizures! If you ever see any coming towards my car, warn them to stay away, it's for their own good. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Okay! In an effort to get back ON TOPIC...

Swallowed hard, and took the drill into my own hands today, and no horror stories to report.

I should be able to finish up the pump wiring tomorrow, and with any luck (or determination, whichever I can find the most of), fabricate a mount for the glass reservoir (front rollhoop prevents mounting of the original oddments shelf). I'd like to get the wiring sorted out for the MGB (2-speed) windshield wiper motor too, time permitting (rollhoop again; no room to retain the original motor/original location).
